Noah and the Ark: A Picture of Grace – Genesis 6:9-22
Noah’s Ark may be the most well-known Bible story outside of Christian circles, but so often we miss its place within the redemption story of Scripture. The Ark is bigger than Noah and it points us to One greater than Noah – it gives us a picture of Christ.
At a Glance
- The name Noah means rest, comfort, and restore. Noah’s salvation was not in the Ark but in the God of salvation, who would come to bring restoration and rest to His people.
- Noah was a means to bring salvation to the world, but he was only a shadow of a greater Savior to come. He preached righteousness, but Christ would become our righteousness. He saved his household from the temporary judgment of sin, but Christ died to save us from the eternal judgment of sin. Noah saved his family in this life, but Christ saves sinners to the utmost, eternally purchasing them into the family of God.
- In all ways, Jesus is the better Noah. Jesus is the better Adam. Jesus is the better Ark.
