Poem From A Broken Heart: Isaiah’s Adventure Part 6

My sweet sister Maya (16) wrote this poem for her brother on the way back from the hospital tonight. It expresses very poignantly what is in each of our hearts:

I see no stars in this night,
I see no victory in this fight,
My heart is breaking with unbeatable woe,
My own frailty is my greatest foe,
But a sudden thought awakens my trust: God is my Rock – my own strength is dust,
And this everlasting, shall be my song:
That when I am weak, then am I strong.

There are many things of which I am sure,
I know God is good – that He is the cure.
I know that despite my aching despair,
That God will take each burden and care.
There are moments when I can only cry,
With broken heart to my refuge I fly,
And this everlasting shall be my song:
That when I am weak, then am I strong.

In Him alone, I place my trust,
I must be strong – I must. I must!
I am afraid of pain, grief, and death,
I am afraid of my brother’s last breath,
So many things, I want to make right,
I am too tired and helpless to fight,
But this everlasting shall be my song:
That when I am weak, then am I strong.

His own son, God did not spare,
He sacrificed all, brokenness to repair.
My brother is hurt and broken and sore,
But Christ is no legend – grace no folklore.
My God is good and this I can know,
For He, too, was struck so grievously low.
To Hm who has suffered, I pour out my heart,
To Him who from me will not a moment depart.
And this everlasting shall be my song,
That when I am weak then I am strong!
