My Poem on Psalm 46
Both strength and refuge is my God,
Rock in storms unceasing,
While mountains melt beneath the sod,
Hope is yet increasing.
While this earth shakes beneath dark frown,
His help is freely given,
My tears behold eternal crown,
On earth, look I to heav’n.
Mountains tremble at swelling sea,
Earth’s core tears asunder,
Though waters roar and foaming be,
I proclaim in wonder:
That when the grounds beneath me shake,
And this world doth sink in rage,
I will not fear, for God did make,
A Rock of holy grace.
Near foul ocean, a river’s smile,
Runs in glorious calm,
She shall not move, but flow a while,
With heaven’s hope a balm.
For on her wave in darkest night,
There glimmers a hopeful star:
When dawn arrives in glor’ous light,
His help is come from far.
While nations rage with foaming sea,
And kingdoms quake on stone,
Abysses yawn where rocks once be,
But hark! His voice alone!
Earth melts beneath that still, small sound,
And all eyes look up to see,
God of Jacob is with us found,
The Lord of Hosts is He!
Come see! Behold! His wondrous deeds,
Evil has been halted,
Destroyed are all her petty seeds,
God is high exalted.
Her battles cease, her wars find end,
Conquered is she now at last,
No longer now can death she send,
For spear she cannot cast.
Bow broken, chariot burned,
The carnal mask is fading,
Glut of idol is now spurned,
Lust of worldly baiting.
Exalted now the only One,
To whom glory belong,
O Grace! He gives His own dear Son,
And gains us Heaven’s Song.
“Be still and know that I am God,
My great name all ears shall hear,
And those that once in darkness stood,
Shall kneel in awesome fear.
Though with sin you are now shod,
Your sin can no more condemn,
I am Gracious, Loving God,
And I bring Heaven’s Lamb.
While mountains sink and oceans rage,
In troubles of this world,
When once appears the Holy Age,
And judgement’s flag unfurled,
When earth melts beneath holy test,
And Heaven shouts loud her song,
Kneel – and thus rise with all the rest,
And join the grateful throng.
For one mount – One! Has stood in dross,
Though fires raged around,
The mount upon which stood a Cross,
Thus dross gave way to crown.
Of painful thorns it once was made,
Above stripes for crimes undone,
For On My Lamb was your sin laid,
This Cross did hold My Son.
By His goodness you were bought,
For your life, His death was paid,
For you He drank the bitter draught,
And now – through Him, be saved!”
And this is why I do not fear.
Though earth and all else fall,
For God, my Help, has brought me near,
And heard with Joy my call.
O God of Jacob, Lord of Love,
Do I stand on Rock so firm?
That though all fail I stand above,
And I, Your grace confirm?
‘Tis true! For led by His own rod,
To Rock higher than I:
“Be Still and know that I am God.”
With trembling joy I cry,
“Though all will fade, and all will pass,
This truth can no lie sever,
That I to Him am brought at last!
I am His forever.”
Soli Deo Gloria,
This is absolutely amazing!
