My Father’s Heart at the Hospital Bed: Isaiah’s Adventure Part 2
This was an email my Dad sent to our Church the first night of Isaiah’s Adventure:
To our church family,
You don’t know how much it means to us to know that we have many who are seeking the Lord on behalf of our family and especially for Isaiah. Isaiah is in critical condition and remains on life support for his breathing with the ventilator doing 100% of the breathing for him at this point. They have given him plasma from a donor and I thank God for that person whoever they are. Isaiah’s brain has swelling in the center and for that, we can only wait to see if the swelling goes down. The bleeding around his brain is minimal. He has a fractured arm, broken ribs, fracture of his pelvis, and a lacerated spleen, not to mention cuts and bruises and things that will likely wash off.
This is the most important thing you need to know right now. God is good and His goodness is in ALL things!
We have family in town and we were all going to get together for dinner tonight and so that means that all our family was together and praying for Isaiah while Celeste, Sydney, and I went to the hospital…again how gracious of God to orchestrate a family prayer meeting to have us seek his face.
God even let Isaiah and I ride in a helicopter today and it was incredibly beautiful to see His creation from that vantage point.
But what you need to know is that God is also the God of all comfort. The Lord Jesus knows as a man what it means to be broken-hearted and He is the great High Priest who knows our pain: “Therefore, since we have such a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who was tempted in every way that we are, yet was without sin.”
We love Isaiah so much and yet it is such a comfort to know that God loves Him much more than we can even understand. To know that God is sovereign and there is not one single random molecule in the entire universe that escapes His sovereign control. That God knew that we would be here right now and it is part of His plan and governing in the affairs of men.
Sometimes we can sit there and blame ourselves but we simply aren’t important to blame, if that makes sense. Who do we think we are that we would imagine that we could control or govern the affairs of our own life. It is at moments like these that we realize how little control we have and how weak we actually are. It is at moments like these where we cling to God, which as we’ve been learning in the book of Genesis, is exactly where God wants us.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” (2 Corinthians 1.)
Harbor View is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the Northwest, which means that we have the best doctors and nurses in the world helping Isaiah right now, and better than that, we know the Great Physician is also here and already knows the outcome. He knows exactly what’s wrong with Isaiah because it was He through whom Isaiah was fearfully and wonderfully made.
I want you to know that no matter what happens, we serve a great God who is greatly to be praised and we are trusting Him to lead us where He wills.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
We love all of you,
Monty and Celeste Simao
